The contaminated blood scandal - understood as the NHS's biggest ever treatment disaster - saw thousands given blood transfusions or blood-based treatments containing lethal viruses including HIV and hepatitis C. He was one of thousands of haemophiliacs infected with HIV by the NHS products he had been given to treat his condition.
